Salem Metal, Inc. Named Middlesex District Manufacturer of the Year
Jason and James Vining accepted the award at a State House ceremony hosted by the Mass Legislative Manufacturing Caucus.
Middleton, Mass., October 28, 2019—On October 22, Salem Metal, Inc. was named Manufacturer of the Year for the Middlesex District in recognition of its dedication to the sustainability and advancement of manufacturing in Massachusetts.
Jason Vining, president of SMI, and his father James Vining, executive vice president, were both present at the awards ceremony, held at the State House in the Great Hall of Flags. A total of 77 manufacturing companies received awards, which were hosted by the Massachusetts Legislative Manufacturing Caucus and sponsored by MassMEP. The event included a keynote address from Speaker Robert A. DeLeo and remarks from Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Kennealy.
Senator Bruce Tarr, district legislator for Middleton, selected SMI for the award, noting that the ceremony highlights the Manufacturing Caucus’s focus on training for manufacturing employees, encouraging innovation by helping start-ups access resources, and expanding apprenticeship opportunities in key manufacturing sectors. The caucus was formed in August 2014 and now includes more than 60 legislators from around the commonwealth. Award categories included Workforce & Jobs, Education, Sustainability, Products, and Innovation.
“Receiving this award was a true honor,” says Jason Vining. “We have received so much support from our community over the years, and our expanded facility in Middleton is allowing us to innovate beyond even what my father and I dreamed about when we began planning it more than three years ago.”
“Through tireless efforts, millions have been invested and time devoted to the industry via grants and funding, as well as partnerships with M212, Greentown Labs, and many others,” notes Jennifer Santangelo, certified business performance advisor at Insperity. “The recipe to our current and future success in the commonwealth, as Secretary Kennealy shared in his speech, is unwavering focus on innovation, support, and bridging the workforce gap.”
